This &#8220;Difficulty&#8221; measures how challenging it is to mine new blocks on the Bitcoin blockchain, quantified in hashes.<\/p>\n<p>These adjustments occur automatically every two weeks as part of the Bitcoin code, allowing for both increases and decreases in Difficulty.<\/p>\n<p>The nature of an adjustment is influenced by miner activity since the last change. A key aspect of Bitcoin is that the target block creation time remains constant at 10 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>When miners boost their computational power, referred to as Hashrate, they can mine blocks more quickly.<\/p>\n<p>To maintain the 10-minute target, the network increments the difficulty during the next adjustment to slow down block production back to the standard speed.<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, if the Hashrate decreases, the network lowers the Difficulty, making it easier for miners to achieve the standard block production rate.<\/p>\n<p>Below is a chart illustrating the changes in Bitcoin Difficulty over the last three months:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The chart indicates that Bitcoin Difficulty has significantly increased in the most recent adjustment, jumping by approximately 4% to surpass 95.6 trillion hashes.<\/p>\n<p>This positive shift corresponds with the Hashrate achieving a new high as reflected in the following chart from Blockchain.com.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-333740 size-large aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bitrabo.com\/discover\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/1729882967_971_Bitcoin-Harder-To-Mine-Than-Ever-Difficulty-Sets-New-Record.png\" alt=\"Bitcoin Mining Hashrate\" width=\"980\" height=\"412\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But why is Bitcoin Difficulty necessary?
