Cardano has reached a new high by processing over 134,000 transactions per second (tps), a notable development for the platform. Charles Hoskinson, CEO of Input Output Global (IOG), expressed his excitement on X by noting, “Not bad Cardano. #HailHydra,” while sharing a screenshot that indicates 134,464 tps.<\/p>\n

In response to a query about whether this was achieved on the testnet, Hoskinson explained that this was part of the “Hydra Doom” framework: every game frame counts as a transaction, and as players engage, that’s what generates the output. This increase in transactions coincides with the launch of the $100,000 Hydra Doom Tournament, organized by Input Output.<\/p>\n

Cardano Launches $100,000 Doom Tournament<\/h2>\n

On December 2, during preliminary testing, Cardano achieved 28,500 tps. Hoskinson had already noted the network’s impressive capability, stating, “Cardano is running some BIG loads right now.” This tournament not only provides a competitive gaming environment but also serves as a live demonstration of Cardano’s Layer 2 scaling solution, Hydra.<\/p>\n

According to an announcement<\/a> from Input Output, the goal of the tournament is to “unite thousands of players globally in a competitive display of the classic game Doom running on the Cardano blockchain, enhanced by the innovative scaling solution, Hydra.” Players will compete against AI bots crafted to test Hydra’s limits in speed and throughput, showcasing its robust performance and security capabilities.<\/p>\n

The event features well-known personalities from gaming and entertainment, including Twitch streamer PotasticP, hip-hop artist MIMS\u2014famous for the song “This Is Why I\u2019m Hot”\u2014former DOOM 3 champion and esports Hall of Famer Fatal1ty, and actor Chris Pang from “Crazy Rich Asians.” Esteemed hosts include esports figures Dgon and Raynday.<\/p>\n

Hoskinson highlighted the tournament’s mix of innovation and competition, stating they are “thrilled to host the Hydra Doom tournament, welcoming players from around the world for an unforgettable showdown.” He emphasized that the event is not solely about competition or the significant cash prizes; it’s a unique opportunity to be part of something groundbreaking.<\/p>\n

He further remarked, \u201cWith Hydra’s capabilities, we are pushing gaming boundaries, aiming for up to a million transactions per second, paving the way for the future of fast, blockchain-integrated gaming. We invite players everywhere to join in, showcase their skills, and contribute to a momentous occasion for both gaming and technology.\u201d<\/p>\n

The tournament includes online qualifiers, allowing players to compete within a two-hour window today for a portion of the $100,000 prize pool. Top contenders will advance to the live finals in Las Vegas in January 2025, competing on an esports stage.<\/p>\n
