This initiative aims to enhance Russia’s regulated infrastructure for products associated with digital assets. Such benchmarks could play a pivotal role in the development of future financial instruments, although current exposure to cryptocurrency remains limited to professional investors.

Expansion of Crypto Offerings by Moscow Exchange

The new indices will monitor four significant digital currencies, designated by the tickers MOEXSOL, MOEXXRP, MOEXTRX, and MOEXBNB. The methodology for calculating these indices will utilize market data from leading offshore trading platforms, proportionally weighted based on their trading volumes. Specifically:

Binance: 50% of the data input

Bybit: 20% of the data input

OKX: 15% of the data input

Bitget: 15% of the data input

In conjunction with these new indices, the exchange is updating the calculation frequency for its entire suite of digital currency indices. Starting May 13, all indices, including the Bitcoin index (MOEXBTC) and the Ethereum index (MOEXETH), will be calculated every 15 seconds during trading hours, along with additional updates over the weekend. Currently, these values are published only once daily, typically by 6:00 p.m. Moscow time.

According to reports from Russian news outlet bitsmedia, the Moscow Exchange has positioned these indices as foundational tools for potential future products. The exchange stated, “In the future, these indicators could serve as underlying assets for new financial instruments.” This augments their existing framework which does not permit physical delivery of digital assets. In May 2025, the Bank of Russia authorized financial institutions to create derivative products linked to cryptocurrency prices for professional investors, as long as these do not involve actual cryptocurrency transactions.

By November 2025, the Moscow Exchange had initiated several financial instruments under this regulatory umbrella, including futures based on Bitcoin and Ethereum indices, as well as instruments tied to BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF and iShares Ethereum Trust ETF. The introduction of indices for Solana, XRP, Tron, and BNB broadens this framework to incorporate additional significant digital assets.

The selected cryptocurrencies are critical players in the global market. Solana and XRP are well-established in the crypto ecosystem, while Tron and BNB are vital for their roles in exchange activities, stablecoins, and transactional operations.

Future Directions for Crypto Indices

The Moscow Exchange intends to further expand its index offerings to include up to ten digital assets. Proposed additions feature:

Dogecoin under the ticker MOEXDOGE

Cardano under the ticker MOEXADA

Hyperliquid under the ticker MOEXHYPE

Chainlink under the ticker MOEXLINK

This expansion aims to transform the current Bitcoin and Ethereum-centric structure into a broader index landscape, covering major layer-1 networks and high-beta crypto sectors, among others.

Additionally, Moscow Exchange’s roadmap for derivatives is ambitious. As articulated by Maria Silkina, the chief product manager for the derivatives market, there are plans to introduce perpetual futures for Bitcoin and Ethereum. Reports also suggest that the leading trading platform in Russia anticipates launching direct cryptocurrency trading as soon as early 2027.

At the time of writing, the price of XRP stood at $1.4061.

The Moscow Exchange has announced plans to introduce new crypto indices for Solana, XRP, Tron, and Binance Coin starting May 13.
