In a post shared on his X account, McGlone emphasizes that Bitcoin has underperformed compared to the Nasdaq-100 index on a risk-adjusted basis. He labels Bitcoin as a “failing” asset regarding portfolio management, suggesting it does not meet the investment needs of risk-conscious investors.<\/p>\n
McGlone’s analysis highlights the MarketVector Digital Assets 100 Index (MVDA), which comprises approximately two-thirds of Bitcoin. Since 2017, this index has significantly lagged behind the Nasdaq-100 Index, showing about three times the volatility without commensurate returns. This volatility, while often seen as a potential for greater reward, has not translated into better long-term outcomes for investors.<\/p>\n
McGlone points out that the correlation between cryptocurrencies and equities undermines any claim that they effectively enhance portfolio diversification. Although high volatility might suggest that crypto assets could provide a hedge against stock market movements, McGlone finds that the actual benefits for risk management are minimal, further diminishing Bitcoin’s role as a stabilizing investment.<\/p>\n
