Farrell forecasts that Bitcoin might surpass the $100,000 threshold before the end of 2026.<\/p>\n
In an interview with Coinage, Farrell elaborated on the implications of rising US bond yields for the nation’s fiscal health. With the US debt-to-GDP ratio exceeding 120% and the budget deficit hovering around 6-7% of GDP, he explained that elevated interest rates are further escalating government borrowing costs. Farrell believes this scenario could prompt the US Treasury to curtail the issuance of long-term bonds in favor of short-term Treasury bills.<\/p>\n
According to Farrell, financing long-term bond buybacks with short-term debt signifies a form of market intervention that might enhance liquidity. He posits that banks absorbing the increased supply of bonds could foster money creation within the private sector, ultimately leading to a depreciation of the dollar’s purchasing power and improving the performance of scarce assets like Bitcoin.<\/p>\n
Farrell characterized this transition as one that could unfold over several years rather than manifesting as an abrupt shift. He likened the monetary devaluation process to a \u201cslowly melting ice cube,\u201d suggesting that in the long-term, rare assets could gain prominence during periods of dollar decline. He also pointed out that Bitcoin’s relatively minor pullback in the latest bear market, compared to previous cycles, could indicate a structural change in the market.<\/p>\n
While Farrell acknowledges the possibility of a short-term correction in Bitcoin prices, he believes that should Bitcoin decline by around 10%, strong purchasing interest is likely to resurface. Having initially set a target of $115,000 for Bitcoin this year, he has adjusted his expectations but remains confident that the $100,000 mark could still be reached.<\/p>\n
Farrell highlighted Bitcoin\u2019s technical indicators as promising signs for its potential recovery. He noted that the cryptocurrency’s price recently rose above its 200-day moving average, a trend that has historically indicated positive momentum. More notably, Bitcoin’s break above its 50-week moving average could signal a shift in market dynamics, attracting new capital inflows driven by trend-following investment approaches.<\/p>\n
Looking ahead, Farrell is monitoring the US Treasury’s quarterly funding decisions closely. He stated that if the Treasury opts for a more aggressive reduction in the issuance of 10- to 30-year bonds soon, it could serve as a potent catalyst for Bitcoin’s price movement.<\/p>\n
