Streamex Secures $1M+ for GLDY Investment Strategy

Streamex Corp., a technology firm listed on Nasdaq, is making strides in the commodity market through the tokenization of assets, most notably gold. The company has announced a significant commitment from an institutional investor, marking a crucial test for the appeal of tokenized commodities beyond individual buyers.

According to sources familiar with the situation, an initial allocation of $1 million has been secured by Metalayer Capital, a systematic investment manager founded by former executives of Two Sigma. This allocation is part of a relative-value strategy involving Streamex’s GLDY token, which is backed by gold, as the long position in a trade designed to hedge against fluctuations in gold prices. The strategy employs offsetting short positions in gold-linked perpetual futures, aiming for stable returns through the yield provided by GLDY, which is expected to yield approximately 3.5% annually through a gold-leasing initiative.

The implications for Streamex are significant. The funds directed toward the GLDY position will increase the company’s assets under management, ultimately leading to increased revenues from management fees. This first step of securing institutional backing signals a burgeoning acceptance of tokenized securities in broader financial markets.

Growth Potential in Tokenized Gold

The recent allocation is considered final for now, although further investments are anticipated. The entry of institutional investors like Metalayer suggests a growing interest in tokenized assets, traditionally dominated by individual accredited investors.

Henry McPhie, co-founder and CEO of Streamex, has emphasized the importance of this strategy for the company’s growth. He highlighted that converting institutional allocations into GLDY offers a fundamentally different approach versus engaging multiple individual investors.

Besides managing GLDY, Metalayer Capital also serves as a liquidity provider on various trading platforms, and it can directly mint and redeem the token along with the issuer. It’s important to note that while Metalayer is expanding the reach of GLDY, Streamex is not involved in managing or sponsoring the fund, nor does it earn fees from the fund’s capital.

Recent Developments and Future Outlook

In August, Streamex laid out a series of goals aimed at boosting its operational strategies, with attracting significant institutional investments being a key priority. The recent $1 million allocation not only serves as a firm foundation but also raises expectations for additional commitments that will further enhance the liquidity and credibility of the token in the market.

Currently, GLDY is available exclusively to eligible investors under certain exemptions from securities registration, primarily targeting accredited investors seeking yield. Streamex has successfully made monthly distributions on the token, with the latest taking place in September, while ensuring transparency in gold reserves through a third-party proof-of-reserves feed.

As the market for tokenized commodities continues to evolve, the performance of Streamex’s GLDY and the potential for institutional involvement will be closely monitored by industry observers.
