In a significant move within the cryptocurrency market, Aerodrome and Velodrome have announced their intention to merge, creating a new cross-chain decentralized exchange (DEX) named “Aero,” set to launch on October 21. This new platform will be operational across multiple networks, including Base, Ethereum, Optimism Mainnet, Arc, and Ink, with plans to integrate Robinhood Chain and Arbitrum in the future.
As part of this consolidation, both existing AERO and VELO tokens will be combined into a single AERO token. The merger also introduces a revenue-sharing model, whereby approximately 94.5% of previous revenues will benefit AERO holders and 5.5% will be allocated to VELO holders. Additionally, the merger aims to transfer existing community structures and trading platforms into the Aero ecosystem.

The merger represents a strategic effort to strengthen liquidity and user engagement by uniting Aerodrome, a prominent liquidity hub on the Base network, with Velodrome, which holds a significant position on the Optimism Mainnet. This integration is expected to enhance operational efficiencies and broaden the user base for both protocols.
In reaction to the merger announcement, Bitcoin saw a notable rise, gaining 25.5% within 24 hours to reach $0.89, while VELO’s value increased by 22.1%, trading at $0.038. Such movements illustrate the market’s responsive nature to significant developments within the crypto space.
This merger is one to watch for those involved in the crypto market, as the collaboration could redefine liquidity paradigms within cross-chain platforms.
