A recent analysis from Coinbase Institutional reveals that the correlation between Bitcoin and gold has reached a notable peak, stirring discussions about their long-standing rivalry as investment assets.
The report highlights that Bitcoin’s 90-day correlation with gold is approaching an all-time high. However, Coinbase emphasizes that a high correlation does not imply the assets will yield identical returns. Interestingly, data from the last month suggest that while Bitcoin has shown a rising trajectory, gold prices have declined.

Bitcoin Outperforms Gold Amid Rising Rates
Coinbase’s analysis indicates that Bitcoin has not only outperformed gold recently but has also gained traction as an attractive investment in an environment characterized by rising interest rates. Marginal shifts in demand appear to favor Bitcoin over gold, suggesting a potential shift in investor sentiment.
“Bitcoin’s correlation with gold is near record levels, yet this does not equate to similar returns. Over the last month, Bitcoin has increased in value while gold has seen a decline,” Coinbase noted.
Bitcoin Approaches a Crucial Price Level
Market maker Wintermute also provided insights into Bitcoin’s recent performance, noting its closing above the 50-week moving average for the first time since November 2025. This indicates a potentially significant upward trend, with the price now eyeing the $82,500 mark.
This level is vital, as it represents the upper boundary of a previous consolidation range, and maintaining this position is essential for sustaining the recent rise. Seasonal movements around the $82,500 threshold may offer clues to the longevity of the rally; however, failure to hold this price could cast doubt on the strength of the breakout.
Despite the challenges presented by rising U.S. Treasury yields, which recently topped 5%—the highest since 2007—Wintermute remarked that risk assets like Bitcoin remained robust.
Investors keen on the evolving dynamics between Bitcoin and gold will need to closely observe these pivotal price movements as they could have significant implications for market strategies moving forward.
