Ripple (XRP) Receives Expected Approval from the US

Ripple, the fintech company behind the digital currency XRP, announced a significant milestone today after receiving final approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish a federal trust bank. This new entity is set to expand the range of financial services Ripple can provide in the realm of digital assets.

Ripple CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, confirmed the development on his social media platform, emphasizing that the OCC’s approval allows Ripple National Trust Bank to operate under a federally regulated framework. This status will enable the bank to offer various banking services designed for the digital asset space.

Ripple (XRP) Receives Expected Approval from the US

Ripple initially submitted its application to create Ripple National Trust Bank last July and secured conditional approval in December. The final approval marks a crucial step in the bank’s establishment and operational plans.

Main Responsibilities of Ripple National Trust Bank

According to Ripple, the newly established bank will concentrate on several key functions, including the management of reserves for its US dollar-backed stablecoin, RLUSD. Additionally, the bank will serve as a collateral trustee for these reserves and offer digital asset custody services tailored for institutional clients.

The stablecoin RLUSD will continue to be issued through standard custody & Trust Company, which is regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS). This dual oversight—federal and state—will provide a robust regulatory framework for the new bank.

Ripple’s Vision for Collaboration

Garlinghouse articulated the broader vision behind this venture, stating that the approval showcases the potential synergy between traditional finance and the cryptocurrency sector. He expressed confidence in the advantages that could arise when banks and cryptocurrencies collaborate.

“We’ve always said that cryptocurrencies and banks can achieve better results when they work together,” Garlinghouse remarked.

The final approval from the OCC represents a pivotal moment in Ripple’s journey, affirming its commitment to enhancing institutional products related to payments, custody, and capital markets. Ripple intends to continue collaborating with the OCC, NYDFS, and other regulatory authorities as it advances toward the operational launch of its bank.
