CEO Denies Claims of Altcoin Delisting by Major Exchange

Kraken Ends Controversial User Information Requests for Monero Transactions

Kraken, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has reversed its controversial policy of soliciting personal financial information from users who purchased Monero (XMR). The company’s co-CEO, Arjun Sethi, acknowledged the mistake and confirmed that the practice has been terminated.

Information Requests Explained

Recently, some users who had purchased Monero on Kraken and subsequently withdrew their funds received emails asking for detailed personal information. These requests included inquiries about their employers, the origins of their investment funds, and intended use for the withdrawn Monero. Sethi clarified that these requests were not based on any regulatory mandate but were instead an internal compliance decision.

In a statement, Sethi emphasized that having high-value assets should not automatically trigger scrutiny as suspicious. “A client possessing a high amount of assets despite being young does not imply an inherent risk,” he explained.

Policy Reversal

In response to the backlash, Kraken has ceased the information requests and assured users that they are no longer required to submit any explanations regarding their transactions. Sethi noted that while questions about the source of funds are generally reasonable, inquiries about how users manage their money after leaving the exchange are inappropriate.

“Where your money came from is a reasonable question. However, what you do with it after you leave the platform is not our concern,” Sethi stated.

Monero Listing Status

Despite the uproar, Sethi reiterated that Monero will continue to be available on Kraken. “XMR will remain listed. Buy it here and withdraw it to your own wallet. That’s our product,” he affirmed, highlighting the exchange’s commitment to supporting the privacy-focused cryptocurrency.

This development underscores the delicate balance cryptocurrency exchanges must maintain between compliance and user privacy, particularly in the face of increasing regulatory scrutiny.
