Bitget Updates Losses Following Security Breach
Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget has reported an increase in the total amount lost due to a recent security breach, confirming that approximately $387.5 million in assets were transferred to addresses controlled by attackers. This figure marks a rise from the previously reported amount of $351.6 million. According to CEO Gracy Chen, the adjustment reflects the identification of more assets, specifically in Zcash (ZEC) and TRON (TRX), discovered through on-chain tracking rather than a new attack.
Response to the Incident
CEO Gracy Chen emphasized that the attack has been contained, making further unauthorized asset transfers impossible. The exchange is actively engaged in security reviews and recovery efforts to address the fallout from this incident.

In light of the breach, Bitget plans to announce a strategy for resuming temporarily suspended withdrawals by 04:00 UTC on September 26 (07:00 UTC+3). This will provide a clearer path for affected users to regain access to their funds.
Recovery Initiatives
Bitget has introduced a recovery reward program to incentivize contributions to fund recovery efforts. Participants who assist in freezing or recovering stolen assets will receive 5% of the successfully recovered or frozen amount.
Industry Support
The incident has prompted messages of solidarity from various leaders within the cryptocurrency sector. Binance founder Changpeng Zhao referred to it as a “difficult day” for Bitget, assuring that Binance and the broader bnb Chain ecosystem would offer support. Other notable figures, including Bybit CEO Ben Zhou and MEXC CEO Vugar Usi, have also voiced their assistance during this challenging time.
