Institutional Investor Shifts Perspective on Bitcoin’s Future
Moez Kassam, co-founder and investment director of Anson Funds, recently discussed the evolving role of Bitcoin (BTC) in the financial market during an appearance on Anthony Pompliano’s podcast. With his firm managing billions in assets, Kassam’s insights reflect a notable shift in attitudes toward the cryptocurrency, particularly among institutional investors.
From Speculation to Intrinsic Value
Kassam’s initial view of Bitcoin centered primarily on its potential for investment and corporate transactions. However, over time, he has come to recognize Bitcoin’s inherent value, asserting that it has transitioned from a tool often linked with anonymity and underground economies to a legitimate financial asset embraced by major financial institutions.

“Previously, I was only interested in investment deals. Now I believe Bitcoin has an intrinsic value and is here to stay,” Kassam stated, highlighting a fundamental change in his approach to cryptocurrencies.
Institutional Adoption Influences Market Dynamics
The increased participation of large financial institutions has been a driving factor in reshaping the Bitcoin landscape. Kassam emphasized that institutional adoption has created a more robust investment ecosystem, differentiating the current market from previous cycles characterized by volatility and speculation.
In the last 18 months, Anson Funds has invested approximately $1 billion in companies that hold Bitcoin on their balance sheets. Kassam noted that their assets under management range from $2.5 billion to $3 billion, with investments diversified through various structures, including stocks and convertible finance instruments.
Caution Amid Growing Interest
Despite his optimistic view on Bitcoin’s evolution, Kassam expressed caution regarding certain companies that have recently entered the market, suggesting that many are motivated by quick profit expectations. This trend could pose risks for investors, particularly those who do not fully understand the market dynamics.
Moreover, Kassam mentioned his interest in Strive, a Bitcoin-focused investment company, where they are exploring opportunities in preferred shares that yield about a 15% return. He explained that institutional investors could take advantage of pricing discrepancies associated with these instruments.
Market Expectations for Bitcoin
Looking forward, market expectations for bitcoin remain optimistic, with some investors projecting potential gains of 30% to 50% over the next year. However, Kassam refrained from endorsing specific price targets, instead opting to highlight the general sentiment and speculation present within the investor community.
As Bitcoin continues to gain traction among institutional investors, Kassam’s evolving perspective underscores the cryptocurrency’s potential role as a stable asset in diversified investment portfolios.
