Bitcoin Life Insurance Company Secures $37.5 Million in New Funding
Meanwhile, a Bermuda-based life insurance firm that offers coverage in Bitcoin, has raised $37.5 million in funding during its latest investment round, led by Bain Capital Crypto. This latest round of financing brings the company’s total funding to over $180 million.
Support from Major Investors
The investment round included contributions from several prominent investors such as Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, and Morgan Creek Digital. Notably, the company counts Sam Altman among its supporters, further highlighting its appeal within the tech and finance sectors.

Growing Assets and Innovative Insurance Products
Since its inception, Meanwhile has seen significant growth in its Bitcoin assets. As of the end of 2025, the company reported holding a total of 1,183 BTC, an increase of more than five times compared to the previous year. The company’s legal capital and excess assets amounted to 759 BTC, based on audited data released in April.
One of the firm’s flagship products, the BTC Life 1-Pay, is specifically designed for high-net-worth clients outside the United States. This product allows policyholders to pay their premiums in a single Bitcoin transaction. Coverage amounts are also exclusively determined in Bitcoin. After the first year, clients can borrow up to 90% of their policy value without fixed repayment schedules or margin calls.
Global Reach and Regulatory Compliance
Since the launch of its insurance products, Meanwhile has developed partnerships with 15 brokers catering to affluent families across several regions, including Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, and Switzerland. The company was granted an insurance license by the Monetary Authority of Bermuda in 2024, ensuring that policyholder assets are managed by regulated institutional custodians.
Addressing Risks of Cryptocurrency-Backed Insurance
Meanwhile’s innovative approach aims to facilitate wealth planning through Bitcoin without the need for asset liquidation. However, the use of Bitcoin as collateral introduces different risks compared to traditional life insurance, primarily due to the cryptocurrency’s volatility against fiat currencies.
As the landscape of life insurance evolves with the integration of digital currencies, Meanwhile’s approach represents a noteworthy shift in how individuals may consider wealth management and inheritance planning in the future.
