Cryptocurrency Market Resilience Following Binance Attack
In the wake of a significant multi-billion dollar cyber attack on Binance, Tom Lee, chairman of Bitmine, expressed optimism about the cryptocurrency market’s reaction. Lee noted that the relatively minor price decline following the incident indicates a growing resilience within the sector.
In a statement released today, Lee recalled the market’s response to a similar event: the February 2025 attack on Bybit. At that time, the price of Ethereum plummeted by 8% on announcement day and further dropped 20% within the week. In contrast, after the recent Binance attack, Ethereum only fell by approximately 4%.

Strong Financial Foundation of Binance
Lee attributed the positive market reaction to both Binance’s strong financial position, which allows it to absorb losses, and the prompt response from the industry. Notably, there was no collapse observed in decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, which speaks to the robustness of the ecosystem.
Furthermore, Lee pointed out that the recent attack stemmed from corporate system infiltrations rather than vulnerabilities in blockchain technology, a distinction that can provide reassurance to investors.
Bitmine’s Expanding Ethereum Holdings
Bitmine announced that it had acquired an additional 8,573 ETH last week, bringing its total ethereum holdings to an impressive 6,060,506 ETH. Out of this total, 5,227,037 ETH are currently staked, and based on existing staking volumes and yields, the company projects an annualized revenue of approximately $358 million.
As the cryptocurrency market continues to navigate challenges, Lee’s commentary reflects a broader confidence in the sector’s long-term viability.
