The cryptocurrency landscape is abuzz with speculation about emerging altcoins. Recently, Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, made bold predictions about the altcoin Hyperliquid and its potential to outperform established players like Solana. Hayes not only forecasted that Hyperliquid will surpass Solana in market capitalization, but he also set an ambitious price target of $150 for the HYPE token, expected to materialize in the latter half of the year.
Arthur Hayes’ Bold Prediction for Hyperliquid
In an update on X, Hayes expressed his belief that Hyperliquid could, at the very least, eclipse Solana by the end of this market cycle. He emphasized that his investment portfolio appears to be flourishing, even amidst contrasting views from other cryptocurrency enthusiasts who claim the market is bearish. Hayes has publicized investments in HYPE, along with ZEC and NEAR, which have shown impressive gains recently.
When hayes made his prediction, Hyperliquid was trading below the important psychological price point of $70 and carried a market capitalization of approximately $15 billion. Following this bullish outlook, HYPE spiked to a new all-time high of over $73, increasing its market cap to around $18 billion while also overtaking Dogecoin to secure its position as the 9th largest cryptocurrency by market cap.
If Hyperliquid continues its upward trajectory, it could feasibly see its market cap surpass $48 billion, potentially making it the 7th largest cryptocurrency. Hayes remains optimistic that the price of HYPE will exceed $100, underlining his confidence in the digital asset’s future growth. He reiterated his price prediction of $150 for HYPE, emphasizing its potential as Hyperliquid’s decentralized exchange (DEX) gains traction. As the platform expands, it will likely enhance the fees collected, leading to token buybacks, with the DEX allocating up to 99% of these fees for the buyback and burning of HYPE tokens.
Challenge to Solana Advocate Kyle Samani
In a separate post on X, Hayes issued a challenge to Kyle Samani, a prominent supporter of Solana. He proposed a charitable bet of $100,000 that HYPE will outperform any other prominent cryptocurrency by market cap until the end of the year. Hayes invited Samani to select a cryptocurrency that he believes can surpass HYPE.
As of now, Hyperliquid stands out as the top performer among the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap, boasting an impressive 188% year-to-date (YTD) gain. The only other crypto in this category showing positive movement this year is Tron, with a YTD gain of 23%.
Currently, the price of Hyperliquid is around $73, reflecting an increase of over 5% in the past 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap data.
