Altcoin Network Shut Down, Added to Upbit Warning List

The Initia (INIT) ecosystem has faced a serious security breach, prompting the team to shut down both the Initia mainnet and rollup networks. The incident reportedly resulted in the unauthorized minting of tokens, with security researcher Spreek estimating that around $2.6 million in assets were compromised.

Sprek’s preliminary analysis revealed that multiple tokens were created illegally during the breach. He documented approximately $2.6 million in outflows, with more assets still in the process of being transferred. To substantiate his findings, he shared evidence, including a sample transaction of the unauthorized minting and an associated Ethereum address linked to the attacker.

Despite these findings, the Initia team has yet to confirm the definitive amount of losses or the technical specifics of the breach in their official communications. They are currently collaborating with security firms, validators, and cryptocurrency exchanges to assess the overall impact of the incident. Users have been cautioned against potential misinformation, including misleading links and messages that may arise during this ongoing situation.

Impact on Trading: Upbit Takes Measures

In response to the incident, South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Upbit has temporarily suspended all deposit and withdrawal services for INIT. The exchange is emphasizing the need to ensure the integrity of transactions on the Initia network before resuming normal operations.

While a timeline for when these services will be restored remains unspecified, Upbit has assured users that updates will be provided through official announcements. The exchange also warned investors about possible increased price volatility for INIT following this security breach. It’s important to note that these restrictions do not indicate a trading suspension or delisting for INITIAL; they are strictly limited to deposits and withdrawals.
