Corporate Bitcoin Purchases May Rebound as Price Recovers
Ryan Rasmussen, head of research at Bitwise, suggests that if Bitcoin’s price sees an uptick, there could be a renewed interest in corporate purchases of the cryptocurrency by the end of this year. This follows a noticeable decline in Bitcoin acquisitions for corporate balance sheets during the third quarter of 2026.
Decline in Corporate Accumulation
Data presented by Rasmussen revealed a significant drop in bitcoin holdings for various corporations. For instance, Bitcoin Strategy’s net holdings plummeted from 83,901 BTC in the second quarter to just 1,666 BTC in the third quarter. Similarly, net Bitcoin purchases by other publicly traded firms fell sharply from 45,725 BTC to 5,617 BTC during the same timeframe, indicating a broader slowdown in corporate accumulation activities.

Future Outlook on Corporate Purchases
Despite the recent downturn, Rasmussen believes that an increase in Bitcoin’s market value could spur corporate buying once more, particularly between late 2026 and 2027. He emphasized that if the value of shares belonging to companies holding Bitcoin begins to trade at a premium relative to their BTC assets, it could pave the way for additional purchases.
Broader Factors Driving Demand
While corporate purchases are significant, Rasmussen noted that they are not the sole driver of demand for Bitcoin. He pointed out other elements that could potentially invigorate Bitcoin’s market, independent of institutional buying. One critical factor highlighted is the demand for spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
ETF Demand and Market Response
According to Rasmussen, US spot Bitcoin etfs experienced substantial net capital inflows, amounting to $6.4 billion in the third quarter of 2026. The ongoing interest in such ETFs could further underpin the price recovery of Bitcoin, showcasing that the cryptocurrency market holds multiple avenues for potential growth.
In conclusion, while a resurgence in corporate purchases may be on the horizon, the future of Bitcoin will likely depend on a combination of corporate dynamics and market factors, particularly the significant role of ETFs.
