Winklevoss Twins Seek Approval for zcash etf
Winklevoss Asset Services, owned by Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, has initiated the process to launch a spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) focused on Zcash by filing an S-1 registration application with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). If approved, the ETF will be listed on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol “WINK.”

Investment Strategy and Custodianship
The proposed ETF aims to provide investors with exposure to Zcash’s native token, ZEC, by directly holding the asset. The fund’s net asset value is expected to fluctuate based on the daily price of ZEC, after accounting for operational expenses and other liabilities.
To ensure the safety of its assets, Gemini Trust Company has been designated as the custodian for the Zcash holdings. The fund will also impose a sponsorship fee of 0.25% per annum, while ordinary operating expenses will be managed by the sponsor.
Initial Interest from Winklevoss Capital Fund
The Winklevoss Capital Fund, along with affiliated parties, has expressed interest in acquiring up to $100 million worth of shares in the fund during its initial issuance or on the secondary market. However, it is important to note that this expression of interest does not legally bind them to purchase the shares.
Potential Market Impact
Should the SEC grant approval to this ETF application, it would facilitate regulated access for investors to Zcash prices, eliminating the need for them to purchase and hold ZEC directly. This development could provide a new avenue for investors interested in diversifying their portfolios with cryptocurrency assets.
