A significant cryptocurrency transaction has been reported, involving approximately $1 billion worth of Bitcoin (BTC) transferred from a wallet associated with the US government. According to data from the blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence, 12,267 BTC were moved from an address involved in assets seized during the Bitfinex hack.
This transaction occurred on October 8th at 16:33 Turkish time and was recorded in Bitcoin block number 970496. The transfer amount of 12,267.023307 BTC indicates substantial movement of funds previously linked to illicit activities.

The recipient address for this transfer currently remains unidentified. However, preliminary analyses suggest it may be either an intermediary wallet used by the government or a temporary holding before the Bitcoins are further transferred to an exchange like Coinbase.
In recent days, it has been noted that other addresses related to the US government transferred over 6,200 BTC to Coinbase Prime, contributing to speculation that the current transfer might be part of a similar strategy. However, a transfer to Coinbase does not exclusively imply that the assets were sold; the US government has not yet clarified the intent behind these transactions, which could relate to custody arrangements or wallet reorganizations.
Following this large-scale movement of Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency experienced a notable price drop, falling below $81,000.
The situation continues to evolve as further details emerge about the transactions and their implications for the cryptocurrency market.
