$1 Billion Invested in Bitcoin ETFs in Three Days: Details Explained

Bitcoin ETFs Experience Surge in Institutional Investment

Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the United States have garnered over $1 billion in net investments within just three days, signaling a renewed interest from institutional investors. The precise figures reported vary slightly, with sources indicating inflows between $1.07 billion and $1.08 billion.

Details of Recent Inflows

The most substantial contribution came on Wednesday, with a net inflow of around $524.8 million. On Monday, the BlackRock-managed IBIT fund alone accounted for nearly $526.7 million of the inflow. These recent investments have not only reversed early losses from October but have also shifted the monthly net flow to a positive balance of approximately $460 million.

Price Movement and Market Dynamics

Despite this massive influx of funds, Bitcoin’s price has not mirrored the investment activity. After peaking at nearly $85,000 earlier in the week, Bitcoin retreated to around $81,500. This discrepancy illustrates that ETF inflows do not always correspond directly to immediate price increases.

Historical Context

Historically, during the significant Bitcoin rallies of 2024, ETFs have experienced average daily inflows surpassing $200 million. During particularly bullish periods, this average peaked at about $235 million. However, since July 1, the average daily inflows have dwindled to approximately $86 million.

Continued Interest Beyond Short-Term Trends

While the recent three-day inflow totals are noteworthy, the critical factor is that this influx appears to be sustained rather than a one-off event. Various elements, including futures contracts, direct spot purchases, macroeconomic factors, and investor profit-taking strategies, play a role in influencing Bitcoin’s price movements.

Ethereum Market Activity

In a separate development, Ethereum ETFs experienced minor inflows of $14.9 million following five consecutive days of outflows. Nevertheless, ethereum funds remain significantly in deficit, with a monthly shortfall estimated at $1.07 billion for October.
